What an incredible college basketball game. Notre Dame and Kentucky put on a show which went to the wire. That is why March Madness is so special, the best three weeks in all of sports.

The Irish and ‘Cats left it all on the court, playing their hearts out. Karl-Anthony Towns was terrific inside, scoring 25 points. Zach Auguste had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead the Irish. Notre Dame was so impressive going to the basket.

Kentucky found a way to survive and advance. Aaron Harrison hit a big three-pointer and Andrew Harrison made the winning free throws as Big Blue Nation celebrated 38-0!

Notre Dame and Kentucky both sent messages as they advanced to the Elite Eight showdown.

The Irish hit nine trifectas, showed great scoring balance and eat a good Wichita State squad. Demetrious Jackson led the way with 20 big points. Jerian Grant was outstanding passing the rock, Zach Auguste scored inside and did not miss a shot from the field.

Kentucky did a number on West Virginia. Willie Cauley-Stein and Karl-Anthony Towns combined for two points in the first half and the ‘Cats were still up 26! West Virginia missed 21 of its first 26 field goal attempts against the tenacious Kentucky defense. Aaron Harrison got out of the gate well and Big Blue Nation moved to 37-0.

The VBDI doesn’t take time off during the tournament.

After an exciting stretch going from 68 teams to the Sweet 16, here is my five stars from the first part of the big dance. I’ll go with Duke’s Jahlil Okafor, Fred VanVleet of Wichita State, UCLA’s Bryce Alford, Arizona’s T. J. McConnell and Kyle Wiltjer of Gonzaga.

The East regional bracket has been busted. The top two seeds, Villanova and Virginia, did not make it to the second week of thew tournament. It’s the first time since 2004 that the top two seeds were out before the round of 16.

Michigan State knocked off the Cavaliers for the second straight year. Travis Trice was the star of stars, scoring 23 points for the Spartans. The Michigan State defense was outstanding, as Virginia made just two-of-17 trifectas. The Cavaliers shot under 30 percent from the field overall.

Tom Izzo is a magician at this time of the year. That is why I picked Michigan State as my sleeper in the region. The Spartans march on, going to Syracuse for the Sweet 16 next week.

Big Blue Nation is smiling as Kentucky is now 36-0, baby! When fans talked about 40-0 earlier this season, I thought they were crazy. Now it is very possible.

Cincinnati gave the Wildcats a battle. Kentucky wears you down with their depth, length and size. It took a little while to get going against the match-up zone defense, as the Wildcats started three-for-16 from the floor. The defense held the Bearcats to 32 percent from the field.

Aaron Harrison led a balanced attack with 13 points. Next up is a Sweet 16 showdown against the winner of the Maryland-West Virginia contest.

While it was upset city on Thursday, there were very few surprises on Friday.

One score that opened some eyes was the Iowa-Davidson result. The Hawkeyes beat a good Davidson team by 31 points as Aaron White scored 26 points, hitting 11-of-14 from the field.

Teams like Louisville, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia found ways to get to the winner’s circle.

The Pac-12 moved to 4-0 as Oregon knocked off Oklahoma State.

The first full day of the big dance produced a number of shockers. It was not a good day for the Big 12, which got out of the gate 0-3, including a pair of #3 seeds going down.

Iowa State was stunned by a UAB team which entered the Conference USA tournament with a 16-15 record. Blazers’ William Lee, who came in averaging eight ppg. and six rpg., put up 14 points and 12 rebounds. Robert Brown, who had 21 points, hit a key trifecta late.

Baylor led 56-44 with under three minutes left. Georgia State scored the final 13 points, including 12 by RJ Hunter, who hit the game-winning three-pointer. The Bears fell by one.

Texas was knocked off by Butler.

One of the best endings of the day saw UCLA get past SMU behind Bryce Alford’s hot shooting.

I am ready for this year’s @Allstate March Mayhem Challenge, baby!
Last year, I defeated Joel the Longhorn. Two years ago, it was a dolphin at the Atlanya aquarium.

This year, I face my toughest test, Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog from Pennsylvania. Phil is great at predictions, picking whether there will be six more weeks of winter if he sees his shadow.

My friends, he has a pretty good bracket and this will not be easy. I am proud of Allstate for donating money to the V Foundation and the Groundhog Club.

I also enjoyed the satellite media tour. I appeared on Wake Up with Al, Morning Joe and Fox and Friends, among others.

I am so excited that March Madness is here. No more talk about the bubbles, baby!

People love these three weeks of college basketball because of cinderellas and upsets. One team capable of surprising is Michigan State, a seventh-seed. Branden Dawson played 38 minutes in the Big Ten title game and is healthy.

My pick to win it all is Kentucky. Big Blue Nation will cut down the nets in Indianapolis with a 40-0 record.

I have heard people say that college basketball tournaments have little meaning. My friends, think again. It gives a team the opportunity to salvage their season.

Look at some of the upsets across America. These kids are playing hard for a shot at the big dance. Then there are teams like Manhattan and Belmont that will be dancing because they won their conference tournament. There is nothing like March Madness, baby!
