What a weekend for the Big East. Villanova upset #1 Kansas. St. John’s stunned a ranked Arizona team at the Al Attles Classic. Butler beat Purdue, Providence blew out Texas, Creighton got past Arizona State. Then add Seton Hall’s shorthanded performance in upsetting Maryland.

The NFL saw the Patriots win the AFC East again, edging the Bills. The Rams were eliminated from the playoff picture. The Texans won the AFC South.

I’m proud to add that my grandsons, Connor and Jake, committed to Duke on tennis scholarships. I am so proud of them.

Merry Christmas to all of the fans out there.

So LSU meets Oklahoma and Clemson faces Ohio State on December 28.

I had a great Thanksgiving down at the Battle4Atlantis. It was a great tournament with North Carolina, Gonzaga, Oregon, Seton Hall, Michigan, Iowa State, Alabama and Southern Mississippi in the field.

Michigan won the championship, beating Gonzaga in the finals. Juwan Howard has an experienced team and his enthusiasm is exciting. Zavier Simpson, Isaiah Livers, Jon Teske and Eli Brooks form a solid nucleus.

The biggest shock of the week came when Duke lost at home to Stephen F. Austin of the Southland Conference. That snapped the Blue Devils streak of 150 straight non-conference home wins. Duke lost to St. John’s at Cameron on February 26, 2000.

In college football, Alabama fell from championship consideration with a loss to Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

The Dallas Cowboys continued to struggle. They gave up 26 straight points in a loss to Buffalo.

It was sad to see Tua Tagovailoa go down with a major hip injury in Alabama’s win over Mississippi State. I hope he can come back to true form as soon as possible.

Joe Burrow continued his pursuit for the Heisman, throwing for 489 yards and five touchdowns in a win over Mississippi.

Cody Bellinger and Mike Trout took home the MVP awards in baseball.

The biggest college football game took place on Saturday, an SEC showdown between unbeaten LSU and Alabama.

The Tigers prevailed, 46-41. Ed Oregeron’s team moved into great position to make the four-team playoff. Alabama fell down in the race for the postseason.

Joe Burrow passed for 393 yards and three touchdowns. Clyde Edwards-Hellaire totaled 180 offensive yards and scored four times. They were the stars of stars.

In another battle of unbeatens, Minnesota held off Penn State. PJ Fleck’s team was brilliant moving the football.

Ohio State and Clemson continued to roll on.

I can’t wait to go to NYC to call the Kentucky-Michigan State game at the Champions Classic. It is a special way to start the season.

College basketball is back and John Calipari and Tom Izzo are among the creme de la creme of coaches. Cassius Winston is my preseason Player of the Year. Kahlil Whitney is one of the top diaper dandies.

The 2019-20 season should be awesome with a capital A!

The World Series is set and it should be excitement galore.

The Astros and Nationals are evenly matched. Great pitchers like Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole, Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg will take the mound.

Young stars like Juan Soto, George Springer and Carlos Correa will be in the spotlight. Veterans like Jose Altuve and Ryan Zimmerman will go for glory.

It should be a great series to watch.

The big news in college football saw Georgia upset at home by South Carolina.
It was a huge win for Will Muschamp. Georgia can still control its destiny. Win out and they can be in the playoffs, but it just became a lot tougher.
I had a great time at Notre Dame as the Irish beat USC.
In the NFL, the Patriots remained undefeated. Tom Brady and Julian Edelman hooked up often in a win over the Giants.
The Nationals were impressive with great starting pitching in taking a 2-0 lead in the NLCS.

It was an interesting weekend in college football.

Clemson almost fell from the unbeatens. North Carolina took the Tigers to the wire, one week after losing to Appalachian State. Mack Brown’s team failed to convert a two-point attempt in the final minutes and Clemson escaped with a 21-20 victory.

Alabama and Oklahoma won easily again. Tua Tagliavoa and Jalen Hurts continued to put up impressive Heisman numbers. Justin Fields also impressed as Ohio State won at Nebraska.

In the NFL, the Chiefs got to the winner’s circle, edging an improved Lions team.

The Bucs got a big win over the Rams in Los Angeles. Bruce Arians’ offense went wild in the surprise.

There are several teams off to good starts in the NFL. Look at the Bills, Ravens and Niners among teams out of the gate 2-0.

The Dolphins have been woeful, giving up 40+ at home in consecutive weeks. The Giants fell to 0-2 as the offense struggled again.

The Steelers fell to 0-2 and lost Ben Roethlisberger to an elbow injury.

The US Open produced special tennis. Rafa Nadal had to work almost five hours to beat 23-year old Danil Medvedev. Raa got his 19th Grand Slam title, moving just one behind Roger Federer.

Serena Williams fell short of tying Margaret Court, missing on a 24th Slam. She lost to 19-year old Bianca Andreescu.

The first full week of the NFL season saw the Ravens obliterate the Dolphins. Patrick Mahomes had another big game, as did Dak Prescott.

I love going to the US Open.

You see the best of the best in action. Roger Federerenjoyed just another day in his tennis office; the guy is a Tennis Surgeon!

I shared a magical moment with GOAT Serena Williams, who I am hoping wins her 24th Grand Slam and makes tennis history . She deserves it and is one of the greatest athletes in the history of sports.

Handling tough moments for young phenoms a key in progressing: the support staff of Coco Gauff has to be at their BEST!

I have never seen such a multi-talented player in pro tennis a la Nick Kyrgios that has such a lackadaisical attitude. He picks spots and relies on his lethal 135 mph serve but plays so many loose points. Must be a nightmare to coach.

The big headline came Saturday when word came out that Colts QB Andrew Luck retired.

Over an injury-plagued career, Luck finally had enough, hanging up his cleats at age 29. He is a smart guy and will do well in the future.
