The state of Ohio had a rough weekend.
There were plenty of surprises in college football last weekend. Georgia, Penn State, West Virginia, Washington and Auburn all lost.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams remained unbeaten. Kansas City was impressive against an injury-plagued Jacksonville squad.
This is turning into an exciting season at South Bend.
The Irish found a special running back in Dexter Williams. Ian Book has taken over as a solid quarterback. Brian Kelly has a legitimate contender for a playoff berth.
Also over the weekend, Europe dominated the Ryder Cup. Fraceseco Molinari went 5-0 in the win. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson failed to earn a point.
Tiger Woods won a PGA Tour event for the first time since 2013, winning The Tour Championship. It was his first victory in over 1800 days.
It was another wild weekend in college football.
LSU got a big win at Auburn. Ohio State fought hard and beat TCU. Wisconsin was stunned at home by BYU. Florida State was humiliated by Syracuse. Nebraska lost to Troy.
Maryland fell at home to Temple. Arkansas got blitzed at home by North Texas.Northwestern lost to Akron.
Notre Dame got a win over Vanderbilt. I predicted that the Commodores would not be cupcake city.
In the NFL, Tampa Bay moved to 2-0 for the first time since 2010 as Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for over 400 yards. Patrick Mahomes had six TD passes vs. the Steelers.
It was a great weekend in sports.
College football, the NFL, baseball…
Alabama rolled again. Notre Dame and Florida State struggled. The Patriots won. The Bucs stunned the Saints.
The one thing that stood out was the US Open women’s final. Fans booed at the end and it took away from a great championship performance.
It is so sad the US Open women’s championship will be remembered for the controversy involving Serena Williams. Naomi Osaka was brilliant in winning the title. She deserves a lot of credit. I thought that Serena should have been warned before a game penalty was given.
Novak Djokovic beat Juan Martin DelPotro in straight sets to win the men’s title. It was a great tournament.
I love attending the US Open in New York. I love the atmosphere and the tennis is great! Seeing the likes of Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, Serena…wow!

The US Open is right around the corner and Novak Djokovic showed why he is a legitimate contender. He beat Roger Federer in the finals of the event in Cincinnati.
Tiger Woods made a run at the PGA Championship, but he finished second behind champion Brooks Koepka. That marked the third major win in his last seven appearances on the big stage.
It was another good weekend in sports.
The Red Sox continued to dominate, winning a series over the Yankees. One of the best stories in baseball stayed hot as the Athletics won six in a row. Oakland would be in the wild card if the season ended today.
There was great emotion in the Pro Football Hall of Fame speeches. It was a very talented class enshrined in Canton.
There was great golf as Justin Thomas won the WGC-Bridgestone event.
Lots of news with the baseball trade deadline.
Cole Hamels, JA Happ, Nathan Eovaldi, Asrubal Cabrera, Mike Moustakas, Zach Britton and Brad Brach were among the players moving.
We will see if there are other blockbusters ahead.
The British Open provided lots of drama. Tiger Woods was back in contention for a major championship. He actually led in the final round before fading a bit.
Francesco Molinari won the championship, becoming the first Italian to win a major. He beat out a star-studded group of contenders, including defending champion Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Kevin Kisner, to name a few.

Another great sports week...
France won the World Cup, a sporting event embraced by millions worldwide. The French beat Croatia in the finals, 4-2.
Wimbledon concluded with Novak Djokovic and Angelique Kerber winning the title. It was a great event and the men's semifinals were memorable for very long matches.

Wimbledon saw a ton of upsets as nine of the top 10 seeded women made it through the first week. Serena Williams moved on as she is alive in the hunt for a 24th Grand Slam title. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are still going strong on the men’s side.
The World Cup Final Four is set. France, Belgium, England and Croatia are still in the hunt.
The NBA summer league got underway as DeAndre Ayton, Marvin Bagley, Trae Young and a solid rookie class got under way. Don’t get carried away with all the stats from NBA summer league action.

The big news broke on Sunday night. King James decided to sign with the Lakers. LeBron agreed to a four-year deal, and the Western Conference got even stronger. The Warriors-Lakers rivalry will intensify with four regular-season meetings between James and Kevin Durant.
The World Cup saw two Sunday games got to penalty kicks. Talk about drama, baby! Who would have thought Russia would make the quarterfinals and Germany, Argentina, Spain, Portugal and Italy would not.
Baseball has been heating up. The Rays did a great job vs. the defending World Series champion Astros. Tampa Bay even beat Justin Verlander. The Yankees and Red Sox renewed the best rivalry in sports.
There was more NBA news as free agency got under way. Kevin Durant, Chris Paul. And Paul George re-signed with their respective teams. Trevor Ariza went to Phoenix, DeAndre Jordan to Dallas.
A lot of things from last week.
The NBA draft had few surprises. Michael Porter fell to Denver at 14. Robert Williams dropped to Boston at 27.
Roger Federer saw his 20-match grass court streak end when he was upset at a Wimbledon warmup by Borna Coric.
The Tampa Bay Reds swept the Yankees. The Cincinnati Reds swept a for-game series against the Cubs.
The World Cup rolled on. Germany rallied to beat Sweden. Argentina fell to Croatia and was in trouble.
