The two championship football games were classic.

It was the first time both went to overtime. The Rams won on a 57-yard field goal. The Patriots won on a drive engineered by the GOAT, Tom Brady. Two great games.
 
It sets up an exciting Super Bowl.
 
College basketball saw the last two unbeaten fall, as Virginia lost to Duke while Michigan lost at Wisconsin.
 
I had a blast calling the exciting Auburn-Kentucky game. The Wildcats escaped with a big win.

Duke showed why it is number one, winning at Florida State. With Zion Williamson hurt, RJ Barrett scored 32 points. Cam Reddish hit the game-winning trifecta.

Tennessee got a big win at Florida. Gonzaga beat a tough San Francisco squad. Texas Tech won at Texas.
The NFL playoffs continued. The Patriots advanced to their eighth straight AFC championship game with a win over the Chargers. The Chiefs were impressive in dispatching the Colts. The Rams took down the Cowboys, wile the Saints edged the Eagles.

The NFL postseason got under way. I was really impressed with Andrew Luck and the Colts, with an impressive win at Houston. The Chargers hung on to beat the Ravens in Baltimore. The Cowboys got past the Seahawks.

College basketball had a busy Saturday. I saw Duke impressively beat a good Clemson team. Virginia was convincing over Florida State in a game that was not as close as the final score indicated.
Nevada fell from the unbeaten ranks, losing badly at New Mexico. Kentucky was upset by Alabama. Kansas lost at Iowa State.
One of the most impressive comebacks was staged by Old Dominion. The Monarchs trailed  21-0 against western Kentucky and rallied to win.

The college football championship game is set. Alabama and Clemson head West.

The Tide outscored Oklahoma while Clemson was too good against Notre Dame. Trevor Lawrence dominated the Irish.

The NFL playoffs are set and the excitement is building on the road to the Super Bowl.
James Harden had a big week with three straight 40+ point games.
It was upset city last weekend. Princeton beat Arizona State, earning its first win over a ranked team in six years.. Liberty beat UCLA by 15. Texas Southern beat Texas A&M. Florida Atlantic beat Illinois. The Owls finished their nonconference schedule with nine wins, tied for the most since joining Division I. Gardner-Webb knocked off Wake Forest.

College bowl season is heating up with the playoffs this week. Notre Dame faces Clemson and Alabama meets Oklahoma.

Army made its impression on the bowls by putting up 70 on Houston.
 
NBA action is heating up. Christmas Day gives us a gift as LeBron and the Lakers meet the Warriors.
 
The NFL is closing in on its playoffs and several games will have an impact this week.
 
Big Blue Nation got a Christmas gift with a win over North Carolina. Duke showed a lot of heart by beating a tough, experienced Texas Tech team.

I was really impressed with North Carolina. Solid passing, a great job on the boards and the Tar Heels beat Gonzaga. It was the first back-to-back losses for the Zags since 2014.

The Steelers got a huge win over the Patriots. Ben Roethlisberger and company needed that one and the defense stopped tom Brady late.

The Chicago Bears won their first division title since 2010. Chicago beat Green Bay to lock it up.

It was another great sports week.

The NFL saw some great action. The Dolphins used a series of laterals to score the winning touchdown against the Patriots. 
The Chiefs beat the Ravens in an exciting OT thriller.
Kyler Murray gave Oklahoma its second straight Heisman.
In college hoops, Admiral Schofield led Tennessee to an upset over #1 Gonzaga. Kentucky was upset by Seton Hall.

The college football playoff is set.

Alabama will meet Oklahoma while Note Dame meets Clemson.

Michigan has been so impressive in college hoops. I was so impressed calling their win over North Carolina. Then the Wolverines added a big win over Purdue.

In the NFL, the Packers were upset by the Cardninals and it cost Mike McCarthy his job.

Im excited to be calling the Florida-West Virginia Tuesday at the Jimmy V Classic!

Ohio State did a number on Michigan, putting up 62 points. Alabama, Notre Dame and Clemson remained unbeaten, while Oklahoma and Georgia stayed in the playoff hunt.

I was fortunate to call a super basketball game as Villanova beat Florida State in the Advocare final. 

In the NFL, the Saints rolled to a 10th straight win. Pittsburgh was upset by Denver.

It was a great weekend for Notre Dame football.

The Irish dominated the Syracuse Orange at Yankee Stadium. Ian Book, Dexter Williams and company were so impressive. The defense shut down a solid Syracuse offense.

Furman made noise in college hoops, winning at Villanova. The Palladins earlier beat another Final Four team of a year ago, Loyola-Chicago.

In the NFL, the Saints showed a lo in a blowout of the defending champion Eagles. The Texans won their seventh straight game. He Steelers rallied from a 16-0 deficit to make it six in a row.

The tennis world saw Alexander Zverev beat Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to capture the ATP Championship in London.

College basketball got underway. Duke was impressive against Kentucky. Florida State dominated Florida. Auburn blew out Washington.

There were also upsets. Stony Brook beat South Carolina. Buffalo stunned West Virginia. Texas Southern knocked off Baylor. Furman stunned Loyola-Chicago.

College football saw most of the big boys win again. Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Michigan and Georgia moved closer to the college football playoff.

The NFL saw the Saints win their eighth in a row. The Rams and Chiefs also won to remain impressive.

The NBA saw the Toronto Raptors move to 12-1. This has been an impressive start for Kawhi Leonard and company.

I’m so excited to start my 40th season calling games for ESPN. What an opener as #1 Kansas meets Michigan State in Indianapolis on Tuesday. I can’t wait to call the game with Dan Schulman.

Meanwhile college football’s playoff picture is clearing up. Alabama pitched a 29-0 shutout at LSU to move closer to the top seed. Notre Dame won at Northwestern to move closer to the postseason. Clemson put up 77 on Louisville. Michigan and Georgia had impressive wins to open some eyes.
In the NFL, the Rams fell from the unbeaten ranks. The Saints moved to 7-1 by knocking off the last remaining unbeaten.
Tennis saw a new star shine. Russian youngster Karen Khachanov had a great week winning the Paris Masters. He beat Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Domenic Thiem and John Isner in an incredible week.

Congrats to the Boston Red Sox. The World Series champions lost just three playoff games against the trio of the Yankees, Astros and Dodgers.

There were many heroes. Steve Pearce hit three home runs over the last two games. David Price threw seven brilliant innings in the final game. Chris Sale wrapped up the finale. JD Martinez, Mookie Betts, Rafael Devers, Jackie Bradley Jr. Wow! 
Dave Dombrowski brought in additional pieces. Nathan Eovaldi had a great postseason.
 
The Rams and Notre Dame remained unbeaten.

The state of Ohio had a rough weekend.

Ohio State lost to Purdue while Cincinnati fell to Temple. Both teams came in unbeaten.
The Browns lost to the Bucs.
In the NFL, the Saints moved to 5-1 as Jason Tucker missed an extra point for the first time in his career. The Rams remained the lone unbeaten, while the Patriots beat the Bears.
The Red Sox and Dodgers made it to the World Series. That is an attractive matchup.

There were plenty of surprises in college football last weekend. Georgia, Penn State, West Virginia, Washington and Auburn all lost.

The ALCS and NLCS were splits. The Dodgers and Red Sox evened their respective series.
 
The Rams remained unbeaten. The Chiefs fell to the Patriots for Kansas City’s first setback of the season.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams remained unbeaten. Kansas City was impressive against an injury-plagued Jacksonville squad. 

The Rams got past Seattle in an exciting game.
 
Alabama continued to roll, putting up 65 points vs. Arkansas. Notre Dame got a big win at Virginia Tech, while Florida handed LSU its first defeat of the season.

This is turning into an exciting season at South Bend.

The Irish found a special running back in Dexter Williams. Ian Book has taken over as a solid quarterback. Brian Kelly has a legitimate contender for a playoff berth.

Also over the weekend, Europe dominated the Ryder Cup. Fraceseco Molinari went 5-0 in the win. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson failed to earn a point.

Tiger Woods won a PGA Tour event for the first time since 2013, winning The Tour Championship. It was his first victory in over 1800 days.

Justin Rose won the FedEx Cup title and $10 million.
It was an interesting weekend for upsets. Old Dominion, entering 0-3, put up 49 points in a stunner vs. Virginia Tech.
The Buffalo Bills, a 17-point underdog, won at Minnesota.
Drew Brees led the Sainys to an OT-win over Atlanta. Brees also set a record for career completions.

It was another wild weekend in college football.

LSU got a big win at Auburn. Ohio State fought hard and beat TCU. Wisconsin was stunned at home by BYU. Florida State was humiliated by Syracuse. Nebraska lost to Troy.

Maryland fell at home to Temple. Arkansas got blitzed at home by North Texas.Northwestern lost to Akron.

Notre Dame got a win over Vanderbilt. I predicted that the Commodores would not be cupcake city.

In the NFL, Tampa Bay moved to 2-0 for the first time since 2010 as Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for over 400 yards. Patrick Mahomes had six TD passes vs. the Steelers.

It was a great weekend in sports.

College football, the NFL, baseball…

Alabama rolled again. Notre Dame and Florida State struggled. The Patriots won. The Bucs stunned the Saints.

The one thing that stood out was the US Open women’s final. Fans booed at the end and it took away from a great championship performance.

It is so sad the US Open women’s championship will be remembered for the controversy involving Serena Williams. Naomi Osaka was brilliant in winning the title. She deserves a lot of credit. I thought that Serena should have been warned before a game penalty was given.

Novak Djokovic beat Juan Martin DelPotro in straight sets to win the men’s title. It was a great tournament.
