Mother’s Day is always special as you reflect back on your childhood and all you learned under the guidance and direction of your mom. I certainly would like to toast every mother out there for health and happiness and success in their lives. My day included an evening bash at my home with all the coaches of the various high schools that have earned the right to play for the Florida High School State Baseball Championships. Each year, my wife and I have the pleasure to host a celebration in honor of the participants of the state tournament since the games were awarded to the City of Sarasota and are played at Ed Smith Stadium (Spring Training Home of the Cincinnati Reds).
This year our local area is thrilled because three of the teams that have made it coming out of the regionals are Sarasota High School, Sara Christian High School and Venice High School. All of whom will all chase the prestigious High School State Championship in their respective classifications. Pat Calhoun who is the leader at the Ed Smith Complex has done a phenomenal job in making it possible for Sarasota to be the host for this exciting sporting event. The week brings in added revenues to the area and it is really great to see the stars of tomorrow right here in my hometown.
